Wednesday, May 10, 2017 was an historic day for National Council of Jewish Women of Canada, Toronto as well as the City of Toronto. We put forward a Proclamation to have the City declare that day as the first Human Trafficking Awareness Day. To broadcast it we had an event at Nathan Phillips Square from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.
Mayor John Tory greeted the crowd of over 100 participants. Speakers Jennifer Richardson (Director of Ontario’s Anti-Human Trafficking Coordination Office), Bruce Rivers (Executive Director of Covenant House), Casandra Diamond (Survivor and Director of Bridge North Women’s Mentorship & Advocacy Services), and Kevin Vowels (Community Engagement Manager of White Ribbon) addressed the audience to reinforce the urgency of eradicating modern-day slavery.
Many agencies involved in the cause were present to provide additional sources of information and advocacy.
This was an incredibly successful event that we can all be proud of. It put us on the map as a powerful and strong voice for Human Trafficking awareness.Read More
